Spotify has long been known for its music streaming service, but now it’s adding another layer to its repertoire: Lyrics. The new feature, which is available on the desktop and mobile apps, displays the words to your songs as you listen. The addition of lyrics comes as Spotify continues to beef up its offerings. Earlier this year, it announced that it would start paying artists more for their music and make its ad-supported service free for all users. With lyrics, Spotify is hoping to attract even more listeners by giving them a deeper understanding of the songs they’re listening to. Some people are worried that this new feature will take away from the intimacy of listening to music privately. But others say that having lyrics available will help people learn new songs or find hidden meanings in old favorites. Whatever your opinion on lyrics in music, there’s no doubt that they’re becoming increasingly popular. So if you’re a fan of Spotify, be sure to check out the new feature! ..

The new lyrics feature comes to smartphones, computers, gaming consoles, and TVs for free and premium Spotify users. It’s rolling out worldwide, so you’ll be able to learn the lyrics to your favorite songs all around the world.

To provide lyrics, Spotify has partnered with Musixmatch. Spotify says it is “bringing song lyrics to life through in-app access across the majority of our extensive library of tracks.” Presumably, if there’s a popular song you want to know the lyrics for, it’ll be there. If you’re looking for the lyrics to some obscure indie song, your mileage may vary.

The feature is rolling out right now, and I was able to use it on my iPhone. To access it on mobile, you simply need to swipe up from the bottom of the screen on the Now Playing view. You’ll see a little colored tab with the word “Lyrics,” letting you know that the song has support for the feature.

If you’re using the desktop app, you can click the microphone icon in the now playing bar to bring up the lyrics. Open the Now Playing view on TV, if you’re using that version of the app, then move to the bottom-right corner and click the lyrics button to turn them on. Once enabled, you’ll see them with your music until you turn the feature off.

It’s definitely an excellent feature for Spotify, as knowing the lyrics to a song can change the way you listen to music. Now, if we could get tabs or sheet music for songs in Spotify, the app would have it all.
